Overview of UHWC
UHWC is NGO leading Palestinian  knowledge-based community healthcare organazation established in 1985, contributing to community empowerment in healthcare and promoting the comprehensive concept in the Gaza Strip.Its members are gathering a healthy vision for our slogan , "Health Service is a right to whoever needs it". UHWC is achieving community health empowerment and promoting the comprehensive healthcare concept through capacity development; primary; and tertiary healthcare; culture and health, and community health communication and advocacy programs.

MSF is a civil society initiative that brings together individuals committed to the assistance of other human beings in crisis. As such MSF is by choice an association.
Each individual working with MSF does it out of conviction and is ready to uphold the values and principles of MSF.
Position in the Organization
Reports to (Hierarchical) Hospital Team Leader
Reports to (Functional) Nursing Activity Manager. 
Job Family Medical and Paramedical
Supervises (Function) IPD/OPD nurses
Main Purpose
Plan, organize, and evaluate the activities concerning his/her field of action (Nursery) and the team associated, according to MSF values, policies and protocols and universal health standards, in order to warrant the quality and continuity of the health care and the development of the plan of action
  • Carry out the functions and tasks associated to his/her specialty, i.e., perform as a nurse, whenever required or needed, in order to optimize the resources, contributing with his/her knowledge and experience. 
  • Implement all the MSF protocols and hygiene procedures and supervise his/her team follow the same standards, in order to warrant the quality of the care and service in his/her specialty.
  • Organize and coordinate the activities of his/her team (week’s schedule, annual leave, absences, etc.), evaluate their performance and define and ensure the needs for training of staff, in order to ensure the coverage of the human resources needs and maintain high standards of quality.
  • Carry out and/or supervise the (decentralized) pharmacy and medical equipment management (drugs orders, follow-up of the stock, storage conditions, inventories, follow-up of expired drugs and their destruction, drugs consumption, etc.)in his or her department, in order to satisfy the needs of material with efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Ensuring that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained.
  •  Ensuring that cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols. 
  • Reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service.
  • Carry-out and/or coordinate administrative (exit-paper, transfer-paper, etc.), information and data collection (patient files, forms, statistics, etc.) tasks, and elaborate regular reporting, in order to have updated and reliable information about the day-to-day activity in the project, output/ outcome and support decision-taking.
  • Give feedback/ reports to medical focal point.
MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities
  • Assign duties and coordinate nursing service 
  • Updates monthly roster at least 10 days before the end of the month
  • Ensure safety and hygienic working conditions for the staff (know procedures in the case of accidental blood exposure)
  • Instruct professional and paraprofessional nursing staff about policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate nursing activities to ensure a good patient care, good staff relations, and efficiency of service 
  • Plan department workflow and determines priorities
  • Observe nursing care and visits patients (check that nursing care is carried out as directed, treatment administered in accordance with physician's instructions). 
  • Inspect rooms and wards for cleanliness and comfort. 
  • Maintain and promotes standards of nursing 
  • Ensure controlled drugs are properly stored, administered and ordered 
  • Instruct preparation and maintenance of patients' clinical records.
  • Accompany physician on rounds, and keep him/her informed of special orders concerning patients. 
  • Identify staff developmentneeds
  • Monitor the use of diagnostic services, in-patient beds and facilities to ensure effective use of resources.
Operational / Technical responsibilities
Structure and equipment
  • Ensure that the infrastructure is maintained in good conditions
  • Report any problem to his/her direct supervisor according to the updated organigram.
  • Supervises the regular maintenance of the ward
  • Order or coordinate orders of drugs, solutions, and equipment, and maintains records on narcotics.
Human Resources 
  • Technical referent if required in the selection of new nurses, 
  • Assist in the evaluation and professional development of nursing personnel. 
  • Investigate and resolves complaints, or refers unusual problems to his/her direct supervisor
  •  Manage the availability, correct use and maintenance of medical supplies, equipment and ward premises
  • Follow up of hospitalized patients
  • Incident report related to nursing activities shall be registered in a special book. 
  • Monthly data collection for out-patients (in/out, lab, x-ray and external examination, specialist consultation or patient referral)
  • Monthly data collection for Out Patient Department Room (consultations, dressings and follow up) 
Additional activities

  • Attendance at weekly medical and project meetings
  • Knows and follows the blood exposure protocols in the event of blood contamination.

  • Is aware of MSF objectives and activities in general and in the working context.
  • Participates actively in meetings and trainings.
  • Reports any security incidents immediately to direct supervisor.
Cooperation with other departments
  • Is aware of activities of other departments and respect specific rules and procedures.

  • Nurse degree/diploma recognized by National Authorities
  • Note: specialty to precise here if any
  • 2 years as nursing ward supervisor
  • MSF experience is an advantage.
  • English required.
