The Opportunity – IT Officer 

Post location:  Gaza Field Office - Deir al Balah - Subject to change depending on SC priorities

Contract Duration and Level of Effort: Until end of December 2025 with possibility of extension
 

ROLE PURPOSE: 

The IT Officer is primarily responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of computer systems and maximizing their benefit for users. Responsibilities will vary based on the size and structure of the organization but may include the installation, configuration, maintenance, and monitoring of all end-user and core IT devices.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to adapt to tasks outside the standard role profile and adjust working hours as necessary. The IT Officer will work closely with, and under the supervision and guidance of, the IT Coordinator.
 

SCOPE OF ROLE: 

Reports to: IT Coordinator

Staff reporting to this post: None

Role Dimensions: oPt CO is a high complexity country, multi-member interest, with an annual budget of around $40+m, and 100+ staff. Currently the program is experiencing a growth in funding and complexity due to the war in Gaza.

 

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

 

Systems, Networks & Office Supplies: 

  • Provide all necessary support, under the guidance of the IT Coordinator, to ensure business continuity and resource accessibility.
  • Complete all tasks assigned by the IT Coordinator across the country office and field offices.
  • Responsible for installing, configuring, monitoring, and maintaining hardware for end users, network backups, and office equipment, in full coordination with the IT Coordinator.
  • Execute all required steps for scheduled maintenance and upgrades under the direction of the IT Coordinator.
  • Assist in testing and implementing globally approved solutions across the country and field offices.
  • Monitor printers, copiers, and fax machines to ensure sufficient toner/cartridges are available and that equipment is functioning properly and maintained regularly.
  • Assist in monitoring server rooms, including routers and switches.
  • Support minimal infrastructure setup activities, ensuring efficient end-user equipment setup.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of technical documentation for systems and processes.
  • Set up office infrastructure, including cabling, network socket finishing, testing, and patch panel organization.
  • Assist in managing office security systems, including door access controls, CCTV, and alarms, when required.
  • Conduct field visits to support staff with IT-related issues and maintain existing infrastructure.

End User support and Guidance: 

  • Assist with end-user support and troubleshooting.
  • Support the team in training or guiding colleagues on the use of Microsoft 365 tools and other globally approved systems.
  • Ensure end-user systems are up to date and that data backups are functioning properly via OneDrive and SharePoint.
  • Coordinate the delivery and setup of all end-user equipment upon staff arrival, including system preparation and configuration.
  • Follow up with the IT Coordinator on user management tasks such as adding or removing users from Active Directory and managing email accounts.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and ensure user satisfaction in all support interactions.
  • Provide hands-on training for staff and partners on mobile technologies used in field program implementation.


Asset Management: 

  • Assist in managing and operating IT assets, including reporting, registration, preparation, handover, and disposal/cleanup.
  • Support the local process in asset registration and conduct regular physical inventory checks to ensure records are accurate and up to date.
     

Staff Capacity Building

  • Follow up with the IT Coordinator to ensure that all staff complete the required technical and mandatory training on time.
  • Support and organize user training on technologies used by Save the Children (SCI), under the supervision and in coordination with the IT Coordinator.
  • Become familiar with IT policies and procedures to ensure that all information and support provided to staff strictly align with organizational policies, without exception.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Essential

  • BSc in computers science or IT 3 years' experience working in IT department for a medium to large scale organization or business and at least 3-year experience in managing the department. 
  • Very good working knowledge in technologies like (LAN, WAN, DHCP, VPN, IP, Wireless devices, IP Cameras, Servers, Backup devices). 
  • Strong experience on fixing computer problems and devices for laptops, desktops, Printers, Photocopiers, ADSLs, and Scanners. 
  • Good reporting skills, good communications-Training skills. 
  • Highly organized and working well under pressure. 
  • Fluent in writing and speaking of English and Arabic. 
  • Commitment to the aims and principles of Save the Children. In particular, a good understanding of the Save the Children mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support 
     

Desirable

  • Actively supported IT operations through collaboration with the team in system deployment, maintenance, user support, and technical troubleshooting.
  • Certificates like MCITP is a plus.
  • Knowledge & personality:  Demonstrates strong knowledge-sharing and teamwork skills, with a proactive and creative approach to tasks. Highly motivated, meets deadlines, and values feedback. Maintains a positive attitude, adapts well to change, and effectively handles complexity. Possesses a basic understanding of logistics, procurement principles, and the IT market. 
  • System Management: Assist in: (deploying systems and networks, monitoring, troubleshooting) with the guidance of officers, coordinator and managers.
  • Experience and knowledge Global SCI services (Office365, Collaboration Tools, Networks, etc)
  • Knowledge in network security appliances and systems such as firewalls, endpoint protection and UTM devices
  • Good Understanding of network services, ports, protocols, and application management
  • Experience in CCTV Monitoring, Access Control systems & Server Environmental control
  • Basic experience in data management and backup systems include cloud-based backup solutions
  • Great Skills and understanding of Network Management: Subnets, Distribution, Routing, Nat-ting, Etc.
  • Advanced knowledge in collaboration tools such as O3655 SharePoint, powerBi, OneDrive, etc.
  • Skills in managing and using mobile operating systems such as android, iOS and any other similar interfaces on Tables and mobile phones.
