Physiotherapist
Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF – Doctors Without Borders) is an international humanitarian aid organization that provides assistance in more than 60 countries to populations in distress, to victims of natural or manmade disasters, and to victims of armed conflicts, without discrimination and irrespective of religion, creed, or political affiliation.
To support our activities in Gaza-North, we are seeking a PHYSIOTHERAPIST.
Main Purpose
Following medical prescription, plan and carry out individual treatment programmes, by assessing patients’ physical state, in order to maintain, improve or rehabilitate the physical well-being of the patient and prevent physical handicaps.
Accountabilities
Register, evaluate and treat patients
- Assess patient physical capacities, using different procedures (e.g. Activity Independence Measure for Trauma patients) in order to set up treatment objectives with the patient and therefore improve patient's health and wellbeing.
- Elaborate and implement physiotherapy programs, including physiotherapy exercises, manipulations, massages, education, utilization of physiotherapy devices and orthopedic equipment, educating and advising patients and their caretakers on how to prevent and/or improve conditions, in order to accelerate and improve activity results.
- Implement a final evaluation before discharging the patient from the physio department.
- Actively monitor and report physiotherapy activities (correctly filling in patient files, forms, statistics, and reports) and analyze these statistics in order to improve quality service, preserving patient’s data traceability.
Raise awareness and train patients and care takers
- Train patients and care takers on how to avoid injury in order to create preventive behaviors.
- Make them understand the importance of respecting the physio sessions
- Teach them how to assist/support in a home exercise-program.
Manage physio equipment
- Take care of physiotherapy equipment, managing the stock, making orders according to activity and cleaning up the equipment, in order to ensure its continuous availability and quality of service.
Ensure good communication between colleagues and other departments
- Report to the technical referent any problem arising in the service, especially the loss/ robbery/damage of medical equipment or medicines in order to implement the appropriate measures.
- Consult doctors if medical questions arise.
- Refer patients if needed to mental health service, HI (home visit), …
- Shares and communicates with physio colleagues (clinic cases, difficulties) in order to improve his approach and treatment.

Education
- Essential, Physiotherapist official degree/diploma.
Experience
- NGOs or previous MSF experience is an asset.
- Previous experience in Physiotherapy would be a plus
- Previous experience in Trauma, Burn or and therapy would be a plus
Language skills
- Arabic and English
Other skills
- Interpersonal skills and good communication skills a must.
- An understanding and alignment with MSF's principles of medical ethics, independence and impartiality
