Background  

Turquoise Mountain is a non-profit, non-governmental organization established in 2006 to revive traditional crafts, and historic areas and to provide jobs, skills, and opportunities through cultural heritage projects. By blending heritage buildings, education, and enterprise, Turquoise Mountain has created sustainable heritage places and livelihoods that support the revival of artisan industries. Turquoise Mountain now works in Afghanistan, Myanmar, Saudi Arabia, and the Levant. Since 2006, Turquoise Mountain has restored over 150 historic buildings, created employment for thousands of artisans and builders, built over 50 small businesses, and supported and generated over $17 million in sales of traditional crafts to domestic and international markets.  

Turquoise Mountain Levant works in Jordan, Palestine, and the wider region to support cultural heritage. We connect hundreds of artisans to new and sustainable markets, provide training and education in traditional crafts, and lead sustainable regeneration projects of historic buildings.   

Role Purpose 

Turquoise Mountain (TM) is implementing a project aimed at supporting artisans by enhancing their access to resources, training, and markets within their communities. A key component of the project focuses on establishing creative hubs, including one in Nablus, to empower local artisans through capacity building, mentorship, and market connections. To ensure the smooth implementation of project activities and effective coordination with our partner organization in Nablus, TM seeks to hire a consultant Project Coordinator one day per week based in the North of the West Bank. The Project Coordinator will oversee activities, coordinate with partners, and ensure seamless communication, working one day per week to support all aspects of the project’s implementation. 

Key Responsibilities 

  1. Project Coordination & Implementation 
  • Support the coordination of the implementation of project activities in Nablus. 
  • Ensure capacity-building programs, training, mentorship and other activities are carried out effectively and meet project objectives. 
  • Support the operation of local Hubs, ensuring they function as accessible, well-equipped spaces for artisans and designers. 
  • Monitor progress and report on challenges or delays in project implementation. 
  • Follow up with the artisans on their grants, seed funding, and stipends across the creative hubs.

     2.Partner & Stakeholder Engagement 
  • Serve as the main point of contact for Turquoise Mountain in Nablus, representing the organization in project-related engagements. 
  • Maintain strong coordination with local partners, artisans, and designers to facilitate collaboration. 
  • Support partner organizations in developing localized training programs and capacity-building initiatives. 

    3. 
    Monitoring & Reporting 
  • Track and document key project activities, progress, and impact. 
  • Prepare regular progress updates and reports for the Project Manager. 
  • Identify risks and propose solutions to mitigate challenges affecting the implementation.

Job Requirements

Qualifications & Experience 

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in project coordination, community engagement, or a related field, preferably within the cultural or creative industries. 
  • Good knowledge of the cultural and creative industries (CCI) sector in Palestine preferred. 
  • Experience working with local communities, artisans, and Cultural `organizations. 
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate projects remotely and across multiple stakeholders. 
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and reporting skills. 
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing circumstances. 
  • Proficiency in Arabic and English (spoken and written). 
  • Residency in Nablus or the northern West Bank is a must. 

Selection Criteria: 

  1. Professional Experience (30%) 
    At least 3 years in project coordination, community engagement, or relative fields. 
    Experience in the cultural or industries (CCI) sector in Palestine. 
    Previous involvement in similar initiatives such as training programs, creative hubs, or artisan support. 
     
  2. Local knowledge and Residency (20%) 
    Knowledge of the local artisan and design scene, including key stakeholders and institutions. 

  3. Technical Skills and Competence (20%) 
    Ability to coordinate activities, engage stakeholders, and manage reporting. 
    Skills in monitoring, communication and documentation. 
    Fluency in both Arabic and English languages. 

  4. Role Understanding and Motivation (15%) 
    Clear and relevant motivation 
    Understanding of the project’s goal and alignment with Turquoise Mountain’s mission.  

  5. Innovative Thinking and Problem Solving (15%) 
    Demonstrate adaptability and proactive problem-solving abilities. 
    Ability to contribute to the program development, innovation, or refining project strategies and implementation plan. 

Residing in Nablus, surrounding areas or the northern West Bank is a requirement for this position.

Contract Duration & Working Days 

Total Contract Duration: 24 months 

  • Total Working Days: 120 days 
  • First Term: 12 months (60 working days) with the possibility of renewal based on performance evaluation. 
  • Consultant will work 5 days per month, with additional working days required during major events and program launches. 

Location 

The consultancy will be implemented in-person in Nablus and other cities, as required by Turquoise Mountain.
