About the position
Job title: Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL) Officer

Contract duration: 7 months renewable according to fundings
MISSION/OBJECTIVES
Under the supervision of the line manager, the Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL) Officer will play a critical role in implementing and supporting a food security project in Gaza. The officer will work closely with the community members, local partners, and relevant stakeholders to identify needs, design interventions, and ensure effective project implementation. This role aims to enhance the food security of vulnerable communities in the region.
List of main tasks:
DIAGNOSTIC AND PROJECT CONCEPTION
- Under the supervision of their line manager and in collaboration with the Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning and Accountability (MEAL) team, take part in the identification of sites and stakeholder mapping where work is to be carried out.
- Conduct assessments, surveys and focus groups discussions to identify food security needs and priorities of target communities.
- Communicate with the community as per the strategy defined by the management and make sure that the projects and the selection criteria are well understood and accepted by the communities.
- Identify relevant stakeholders, community leaders, activists in target areas, and ensure their active participation.
- Facilitate community mobilization and organization to ensure community participation at all stage of project cycle.
- Report any relevant additional information collected or observed in the field that could be of relevance for the decision making and the implementation of the activities.
- Participate to analysis of the local environment and understand needs, requests, technical or contextual limitations that might have an impact on the field operations.
- Ensure that activities under his/her responsibility are followed up.
- Participate in consultancy missions.
IMPLEMENTATION AND OPERATIONAL FOLLOW-UP
Under instruction of the Line Manager:
- Carries out the activities as defined in weekly meetings with the line management, and as per the work plan communicated.
- Ensures that the implementation of cross cutting themes (gender and protection mainstreaming, conflict sensitivity and environmental sustainability) is integrated into economic recovery activities.
- Support the preparation of BoQs, Purchase Link (PL) when requested.
- Ensure accurate follow-up and monitoring of the activities in the field, using the SI’s standards and tools and provide technical support to beneficiaries, if needed.
- Adhere to SI’s standard operational procedures.
- Anticipate difficulties in the carrying out of the activities, propose adjustments according to the field understanding and the possible feedback from the community.
- Provide technical support to beneficiaries in the areas of interest (agriculture and home gardening)
- Coordinate the implementation with relevant partners and stakeholders.
- Communicate with anticipation to the Line Manager on needs that engage the support department.
- Ensure positive relationship and good communication practices with different support departments.
- Ensure the data collected and reports are safely archived/handed to the Line Manager.
- Establish safety and security measures for each activity and ensure that these rules are respected by workforce under his/her supervision and by beneficiaries.
REPORTING / COMMUNICATION
- Keep monitoring tools and file archived at the Solidarités International office.
- Provide weekly and monthly reports on the challenges faced, lessons learned, and progress made.
- Report to Supervisor on the progress of activities and specific tasks assigned, problem encountered, the quality of relations with beneficiaries.
- Analyse the humanitarian situation, taking protection problems into consideration/Do no Harm to the population.
- Collaborate with local administration and authorities.

Studies: Higher education certificate or equivalent, in agriculture, horticulture, food security or livelihoods related disciplines
Experience: 1 year experience in small scale gardening or agriculture
Languages: Fluent in Arabic, English is an asset
IT: good to professional level in Excel, Word, etc.
Skills:
- Technical knowledge and experience in small scale gardening, sack gardening, vertical gardening, etc.
- Understanding of community-based and gender-sensitive approaches
- Experience in training farmers and engaging with community members
- Capacity to work in the field daily, communicate with a wide range of stakeholders and problem-solve technical issues
- Teamwork spirit, flexibility and ability to work effectively under pressure
