Founded in 1993, Médecins du Monde Switzerland is a medical association of international solidarity that is part of the Médecins du Monde network. We provide sustainable access to health care for people in vulnerable situations in Switzerland and around the world.
MdM Switzerland, has been working in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) since 1994 in the sector of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), implementing emergency and development interventions, focusing on victim of occupation-related violence, children and detention, suicide prevention and management, strengthen of access to mental health cares at national and community level, and advocacy initiative.
MAIN OBJECTIVES:
- Provide psycho-social support to vulnerable population according to MdM Switzerland’s procedures and the objectives of the different projects.
- Conduct and/or support the implementation of the activities related to the promotion of Mental Health at community level\
- Implement capacity building activities at community level
- Ensure the proper use of MdM resources in Palestine.
- Ensure the respect of MdM procedures in Palestine.
POSITION IN THE ORGANIGRAM:
Under the direct supervision of the Program Officer
FUNCTIONS
Main responsibilities and activities of the Social Worker can change according to the organization of the work and to the composition of the team.
- Programming.
- Provide Psycho-social support and counselling sessions for individuals and families in targeted locations within Jerusalem and Bethehem according to the activities included in the ECHO project and the standard procedures validated by MdM Switzerland.
In collaboration with the MHPSS team , assist in the identification of psychosocial needs, especially in the recognizing of emergency situations and symptoms related with it on the affected population.
Providing immediate psychosocial support (PSS) to victims of critical events, including psychosocial support visits, PFA and PSS assessments at the individual and community level.
Informing, advising, and referring beneficiaries (BNF’s) in need towards internal services or towards external partners, according with the available services.
- Refer MH cases for advanced interventions according to the MdM Switzerland Referral SoP.
- Represent MdM Switzerland and ensure coordination at field level, covering the role of MdM community focal point when needed.
- Participate in events, trainings, sessions, and meetings in collaboration with the Project Officer.
- Based on community needs and interests, implement community-based awareness raising activities and psychoeducation sessions.
- Implement peer support groups
- Assist in maintaining contacts with key contacts at community level (Village Councils, community-based organizations, community leaders, and community focal points…) on MHPSS aspect of MdM-CH projects
- Participate in communication and advocacy activities, upon request.
- Ensure the respect of MdM -CH protocols and policies regarding protection mainstreaming, child protection, PSEA and feedback and complaint mechanisms during program implementation.
- Collaborate and participate, in any field survey, data collection and/or needs assessment organized by MdM-CH in relation to MHPSS.
2\Representation
- Participate in MdM-CH internal meetings, training, and individual meetings.
- Participate in working meetings and coordination meetings with partner structures, upon request from your line manager.
- Share minutes of attended meeting within one week following the meeting.
- Represent MdM-CH at community-based events and, when needed, during meeting and field visits.
- Data collection and Reporting
Ensure that MHPSS activities are well documented in accordance with MdM -CH standards.
Daily update the incident tracking sheet with the relevant information, in coordination with the MHPSS Emergency Response program officer
Ensure that the MHPSS files are secured and stored in a way that preserves the confidentiality and the privacy of the cases.
Provide weekly planning of field and office activities .
Report the progress and the development of activities, achievements, challenges, and eventual gaps to the program officer
Provide case study, testimonies and/or success stories (Qualitative data collection) upon request from your line manager.
Give quantitative data inputs on ECHO project database according to the timing agreed with your line manager and the MEAL Officer.
Provide specific technical reports upon request from the program officer.
Report sensitive cases encountered at community level (i.e. suicidal, sexual abuse) based on MdM-CH protocols and PSEA policies.
- Report to the Program Officer on a regular basis.
- Security
- Participation in the security meetings and respect of the security rules set up according to the context.
- To inform immediately the security focal point in case of any security incident or problem.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Very good skills in providing Problem management , individual and family counselling sessions.
- Knowledge of MHPSS international guidelines
- Ability to work under pressure in an unstable and changing environment.
- Excellent skills in using Microsoft office (word, Excel, power point )
- Diplomatic and analytical skills.
- Ability to work in team.
- Autonomy to work independently and without constant supervision.
- Ability to manage priorities effectively.
- Good skills in organization, coordination and transfer of knowledge.
- Ability to work with different groups of beneficiaries (female, male, children, adolescents, adults and elderly).
- To behave with self-restraint at all times and respect the dignity of the beneficiaries.
- Ability to give and accept feedback.
- Willingness to improve own skills and capacities by participating in capacity building activities.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work in a difficult security context and willingness to accept security protocols.
- Problem solving approach and creativity.
- Flexibility and ability to work after working hours when it is needed.
- To believe in concepts of equity, human rights, neutrality and impartiality.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES:
- A minimum of a bachelor's degree in social work or social science, or any other related field.
- Fluent English & Arabic.
- Essential working experience in humanitarian response and at minimum two years in a similar position.
- In-depth knowledge of the context in jerusalem and WB, in terms of main challenges, sociocultural issues, risks and familiarity with the NGOs and CBOs in the areas.
CONDITIONS:
- The position is based in Jerusalem with frequent travel to Bethlehem.
- The position will cover both Jerusalem and Bethlehem
- The applicant must obtain a valid driving license and be able to drive around East Jerusalem and West Bank.
- Contract Duration: 4 months can be renewable.
- Working Hours: Standard office working hours from Sunday to Thursday.
