The Electrical Design Assistant will report directly to the Infrastructure lead Electrical Engineer and under the overall supervision of the Head of ISSC.
The Associate Electrical Engineer (Design) shall work under the direct supervision of the Infrastructure Electrical lead engineer. She/ he will be required to undertake the following tasks:
Technical tasks:

Assist in the design & analysis of Electrical engineering systems for projects to be designed in-house as requested; utilizing research, development, relevant codes, and good engineering practices.

Assist in preparing Electrical drawings including plans, sections, elevations, schematics, details, and other layouts as needed.

Produce Auto-CAD design drawings according to the agreed scope of work, ensuring accurate and high-quality drawings and in a timely manner meeting the set deadlines.

Assist in preparing Electrical bills of quantities suitable for tendering in an accurate manner and in harmony with the produced design drawings.

Perform quantity surveying for designed tasks.

Assist in preparing and verifying technical specifications for Electrical systems including products, apparatus, services and associated quality of workmanship

Produce programs of works for designed tasks to identify all timelines for the implementation of Electrical Works.

Assist in Drafting Electrical Engineering design reports, Design Brief Reports, etc..

Perform needed supporting design calculations.

Assist in preparing estimates and prices for developed design packages.

Review Electrical systems designs for Infrastructure projects as assigned by the chief engineer; in terms of accuracy, and suitability to overall design requirements, including Identifying improvements in the designs and being able to propose practical solutions.

Perform any other related design tasks relevant to Electrical Engineering.
Administrative tasks:

Manage Electrical engineering-related material archiving.

Keep files and records of the design processes.

Coordination with other engineering design disciplines (Architectural /Structural/ Electrical).

Assist in scheduling requested tasks related to Electrical works.

Perform any other tasks relevant to the ISSC Unit as required.
Monitoring and Progress Controls

Active participation in weekly Design progress meetings as needed.

Active participation in periodical staff meetings as needed.

Maintaining accurate, quality, and completion of documentation as identified in the responsibilities above.
Final Product
-
Deliver delegated tasks by the supervisor on time and as per the required quality parameters.

Qualifications and Experience

Education
-
Completion of secondary school is required
-
Bachelor's degree in Electrical engineering from a reputable University is desired but not required.
-
A recognized diploma in Auto-CAD Drafting would be an asset.
Work Experience
-
7 years of experience( or less depending on academic credentials- BA with 3 years and MA with 1 year) in Electrical medium and low current systems design and construction for medium to large scale infrastructure projects.

Good knowledge in industrial equipment and machinery such as standby generators, UPS, and clean agent systems is an asset
-
At least 3 year of comprehensive knowledge in computer drafting software, particularly BIM and “AutoCAD” is essential.

Experience in using specialized Engineering Design Software such as Dialux software for the lighting systems is an asset
-
Work Experience with an international organization and/or UN Agencies is an asset.

Membership in an accredited Engineers Association is required.

A valid driving license is an advantage but not essential.

Good knowledge of the local & international Building Rules and Regulations is an asset.

General knowledge of the design standards required for a wide range of buildings, Facilities and equipment is an asset.

Good report writing and oral presentation skills is an asset..

High proficiency with computers in particular; G-suite, MS office, Internet, MS Project, and other related software related to the position's field of expertise is an asset.

For retainer contracts, you must complete a few mandatory courses ( they take around 4 hours to complete) in your own time, before providing services to UNOPS.
