Palestine. The organization was established in late 2006 and became fully operational in 2007, with its national secretariat based in Ramallah. The organization defines itself as a Disabled People’s Organization (DPO) and is run by women with disabilities for women with disabilities. It is the only organization of its kind in Palestine and one of only a small number internationally. Stars of Hope Society seek to ensure opportunities in all walks of life for all women with disabilities.
Stars of Hope Society, was established due to discrimination and prejudice against women with disabilities, in addition to the fact that there was no organization or program specifically targeting the needs of this group. Stars of Hope Society established itself with the goal of supporting women with disabilities in Palestine to improve the lives of women with disabilities.
Internship Program for Women with Disabilities is an ongoing project for SHS, its overall objective is to contribute to poverty alleviation and quality of live improvement of the women with disabilities in the West Bank and Jerusalem
Through this project, a number of women with disabilities were employed to produce more role models and mentors for other women with disabilities. We believe that having role models and mentors makes all the difference in the world for girls and women with disabilities as they think about what they are able to do if they fight for opportunities. Because having meaningful, valued work is such an important part of life, we hope through this project to encourage Palestinians to hold an expansive vision of what is possible for women with disabilities in the employment arena, and to offer strategies, resources, and inspiration to realize that vision.
